Opening: 4. 5. 2011 (Wednesday) from 18.30

At the exhibition ARCHITECTURE.SK.05/10 – Crop II almost one hundred works from over 150 professional architects and students during the years 2005-2010 were presented on 70x100 mm posters and models. These are completed projects, as well as student works, competition entries and visions from houses to blocks of flats, civic buildings and facade details. The exhibits come from architectural studios across Slovakia, among student entries the majority come from the Architecture Faculty of the STU in Bratislava. There is also a wide range of generations represented among the exhibitors – starting with doyens such as Ivan Matušík and Eva Ondrušková to architects in their fifties - Ľubomír Závodný, Katarína Viskupičová, Pavel Kosnáč, SAN-HUMA, AMŠ and forties – GFI, BARAK architekti, to the younger generation represented by Hlinka architekti, Andrea Klimková, Ateliér G17 (Zuzana Bumbálová, Martin Hanták), Uniformarchitects (Martin Lepej, Michal Riabič), and others. Many of the presented works have received awards in architecture competitions for completed structures (CE.ZA.AR) or in creative competitions for students. The exhibition is accompanied by a video presentation of works selected from the 1st part of the project in May 2010, in which almost 70 works were presented. The exhibition is also a showcase for architectural photography and the photographs were taken by leading Slovak photographers including Boleslav Boška, Pavol Meluš, Soňa Sadloňová, Paťo Safko, Ľubo Stacho and Daniel Veselský.

The documentary exhibition project ARCHITECTURE.SK.05/10 is currently the most extensive project on contemporary architecture ever in Slovakia and its aim is not just the documentation of projects for presentation to the public, but also to produce a creative confrontation and the building of relationships and cooperation between all parties involved in architectural creation.

Instigator and curator of the project Ľubica Fábri: „In Slovakia we have been lacking a regular showcase for the broad spectrum of contemporary architecture. Many works are seen by the public as winners of various competitions, or in specialist magazines, but many good projects from small and younger firms of architects go unnoticed, even in architectural circles. It is important that the public has the opportunity to see the projects which may not be making the headlines, but which also shape the environment in which we live – in both a positive and negative way. Everyone who participates in the creation of architecture must learn to differentiate the good from the bad if we want to live in an ever better and more attractive environment. The project is aimed at presenting not just the work of good architects and teachers of architecture, but also highlighting the role of investors, funds and contractors in the creation of our architectural environment. I hope that my project will contribute to open communication in Slovakia and improvement of the level of architectural work from all sides.“

Of the works presented at ARCHITECTURE.SK.05/10 – Crop II a jury of experts comprising Ľubica Fábri, Ivan Gürtler, Martin Mašek and Imrich Pleidel selected works and projects for the collective exhibition and publication. Works and projects gathered in the concluding part of the project (3rd Crop) will be presented to the public at an exhibition in Bratislava in October 2011 during the architecture festival ARCHDAYS 2011. All work documented in the project ARCHITECTURE.SK.05/10, will remain on the ARCHA Centre website where it will be a valuable record of the many forms of contemporary architecture in Slovakia.

Organisers of the exhibition ARCHITECTURE.SK.05/10 – Crop II also prepared an accompanying event for this year’s Museum Night on 14th May 2011 from 17.00 to 19.00, when talks on the theme Passive Houses will be held at the exhibition site. The talks will be given by Bjorn Kierulf (CREATERRA) and Pavol Pokorný (Pokorny architekti). A tour of the exhibition with commentary will be provided by the exhibition curator Ľubica Fábri. There will be no entry fee.

The documentation project ARCHITECTURE.SK.05/10 from its start in 2008 has been financed exclusively from private sources. Those exhibiting works pay a symbolic registration fee, there are contributions from the exhibition’s partners – private companies including TECHO, and the associations Design Slovakia/Centrum ARCHA contribute from their own funds.
